Doctor of Philosophy in Education by Coursework and Thesis (PhD)

  • PhD in Educational Curriculum Studies,
  • PhD in Educational Administration and Planning,
  • PhD in Educational Assessment and Evaluation ;

Entry requirement

  • A Masters degree with background in Education at a recognized University/Institution of Higher Learning with an average of grade B+ or above (or an upper second class)
  • Must have taken at least three (3) courses in one of the three areas of specialization stated
  • Applicants with lower second class at master’s level must have a work experience of at least 5 years.
  • Applicant must submit a concept paper in area of research interest in 2 to 3 pages

 

Master of Education Programme

Students shall choose one of the following areas of specialization:

  • Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction
  • Master of Education in Professional Practice in Secondary Education
  • Master of Education in Educational Assessment and Evaluation
  • Master of Education in Educational Planning and Administration
  • Master of Education in Professional Practice in Higher Education
  • Master of Education in Higher Education Management

Entry requirement

In order to be admitted to the Master of Education programme, the applicant must have:

  • Holder of Bachelor degree in Education with at least Upper second class honours
  • Holder of Bachelor degree with at least Lower second class honours plus Postgraduate Diploma in Education
  • Holder of Bachelor degree with at least Lower second class honours with a teaching experience of two years since graduation with a Bachelor degree
  • Holder of Bachelor degree’s in other field than Education who are employed in a University as Tutorial Assistance or in a College of Education teaching diploma Education
  • An equivalent qualification from recognized university or institution of higher learning

Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE)

Entry Requirement

  • To be admitted in the PGDE programme, the applicant shall be a holder of a Bachelors Degree or above, outside of the field of Education, from any recognized university, with two teaching subjects at secondary level or other special consideration.

Bachelor of Education Science (Biology, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, ICT)

Entry requirement

  • Applicant must have at least two principal passes in two science teaching subjects OR
  • Applicant with diploma in teacher education or equivalent with at least an average of “B” or at least a GPA of 3.0

Bachelor of Arts in Geography and Environmental Studies (BAGEN)

Entry requirement

  • Applicants must have at least two principal passes (one of which must be Geography) and a subsidiary which constitute not less than 4 points.
  • Applicants must hold at least four ‘O’ level passes in relevant subjects, one of which must be Geography, and must hold a Diploma in related fields of environment, with at least a B grade.

Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Social Work

Entry requirement

  • Applicants must have at least two principal passes and a subsidiary which constitute not less than 4 points.
  • Applicants must hold at least three ‘O’ level passes in relevant subjects, and must hold a Diploma in related fields of social sciences, with at least a B grade.

Bachelor of Business Administration and Management

Entry requirement

  • Applicants must have at least two principal passes at A’ level, which constitute not less than 4 points
  • Applicants must hold at least four ‘O’ level passes in relevant subjects, and must hold a Diploma in related fields of environment, with at least a B grade.

Entry Requirements

  • Applicant must have at least two principal level passes in appropriate subjects at ‘A’ level and must have grade point average of not less than 4 points
  • Applicants under equivalent qualifications must hold at least four O-level passes in relevant subjects and must hold a diploma at a minimum of second-class level from a recognized institution.

Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Statistics

Entry requirement

  • Applicants must have at least two principal passes of which one must be mathematics and must have grade points total of not less than 4.0
  • Applicants must hold at least four ‘O’ level passes in relevant subjects, one of which must be, and must hold a Diploma in Computer Science or Mathematics related fields or statistics, with at least a B grade.

Diploma in Laboratory Technology (3 Years)

Entry requirements

  • Applicants must hold at least four ‘O’ level D passes in 4 approved subjects of which two should be Physics and Chemistry

Language and Education

Introduction

The Third Mwenge Catholic University Conference on Language and Education is an inter-disciplinary forum brings together leading scholars, researchers and practitioners from around the Region(Eastern and Central Africa) and abroad to present and discuss new advancements and research findings in the fields of language and education. We invite everyone to participate and contribute research articles or academic papers to be presented in the event.

The conference, which will be held at Mwenge Catholic University, Moshi Kilimanjaro Tanzania on the 24th and 25th of November 2016, is now calling for abstracts and full papers. The secretariat invites academics, researchers and professionals who wish to share papers, research findings or new theories on the topics above to submit their abstract/proposals and join us in this event.

Abstracts

Presenters are urged to submit their abstract by 15th of August to the Conference coordinator, Dr. Godfrey Telli at the following email address: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Furthermore, presenters are advised to adhere to the following submission guidelines when writing their abstracts:

  1. The title of the paper (should not exceed 22 words)
  2. Abstracts text written in English not exceeding 500 words.
  3. The abstract should state the following: what is the research about, methodology, findings, and conclusion.
  4. Abstracts should address directly at least one of the key strands of the conference, namely, Language and Education

Please note also that, abstracts shall be passed on to reviewers as soon as they are received. Authors may receive review results between as early as 48 hours up to 7 days upon initial submission. Please ensure that you had entered a working email address during registration and check your spam folder in case our mail was routed there.

Full Papers

  1. Papers should not exceed 20 pages long. This is inclusive of all text, tables, figures, and appendices.
  2. Papers on any of the themes listed will be accepted for review. The author will be notified via email if their paper has been accepted. Notifications may also include reviewer(s) comments and suggestions.
  3. Presenters may opt to NOT publish their papers in the conference proceedings. In this case, please inform the conference secretariat early.
  4. The content, schedules, name tags and proceedings of the conference portfolio will normally be finalized before the conference start date. Please confirm your participation on time.

Oral Presentation Formats

Each presenter shall be given 20-25 minutes for presentation. An additional 10-15 minutes will be added for Q&A which will be moderated by the session chair.For the benefit of the audience, the presentation should at least state the following:

  1. An overview of the concept/ theories/research being presented
  2. Research methods and methodology (if any)
  3. The findings (if any)
  4. The conclusion.

Publication

Full papers presented at The 3rdMWECAU Conference 2016 (MCUC - 2016) will be published in the conference proceedings and shall be distributed to participants within 30 days after the event. Selected authors will be offered an opportunity to be published in the Mwenge Journal of Academic Studies (MJAS). Selection of articles will be based a number of factors including, among other things, quality of research, originality and style. Selected papers may be required to undergo further review and editing before actual publication.

Note: English is the official language of all conference presentations, papers and abstracts to be submitted.
